"Thinking Theatrically: Ethnodrama as Qualitative Research"

Johnny Saldaña  is the Evelyn Smith Professor of Theatre in the School of Film, Dance, and Theatre at Arizona State University in the U.S.A., where he has taught from 1981 through 2014. He is the author of Drama of Color: Improvisation with Multiethnic Folklore (Heinemann, 1995); Longitudinal Qualitative Research: Analyzing Change Through Time (AltaMira Press, 2003); Ethnodrama: An Anthology of Reality Theatre (AltaMira Press, 2005); The Coding Manual for Qualitative Researchers (Sage Publications, 2009; second edition, 2013); Fundamentals of Qualitative Research (Oxford University Press, 2011); Ethnotheatre: Research from Page to Stage (Left Coast Press, 2011), and the third edition of the late Matthew B. Miles & A. Michael Huberman's Qualitative Data Analysis: A Methods Sourcebook (Sage Publications, 2014). Saldaña has received outstanding book awards from the National Communication Association's Ethnography Division, the American Alliance for Theatre & Education, and the American Educational Research Association's Qualitative Research Special Interest Group. Mr. Saldaña's research methods have been cited by researchers internationally for publications in disciplines such as education, the fine arts, technology, government, social services, human development, the social sciences, communication, business, health care, and medicine. His forthcoming books from Sage Publications include a third edition of The Coding Manual for Qualitative Researchers and Thinking Qualitatively: Methods of Mind, a reader on the various lenses, filters, and angles qualitative researchers can employ for social inquiry.
